Port Olpenitz

Schleswig-Holstein, Germany

Based on Chief Planner Herbert Harm’s proposals, this former Navy base, Olpenitz, will be transformed into Northern Europe’s largest holiday resort, "Port Olpenitz."

Despite the environmental sensitivity of the area and the sheer size of the development, the project is rapidly moving forward, having avoided what could have been a lengthy approval process. Looking back on the progress thus far, Jaska Harm, Managing Director of Port Olpenitz GmbH stated: “We talked very openly about the critical points and developed solutions together, not only in our meetings with all the relevant authorities, surveyors and specialist planners but also in our round-table discussions with local residents, stakeholder groups and associations. We are delighted at how quickly the project is moving forward and are looking forward to naming the construction start and marketing launch dates soon.“

Groundbreaking for the construction of show houses took place in December 2008. The initial construction phase, including the yacht club, began in the northern sector of the 170-hectare project area, bordered by the Baltic shore and the River Schlei estuary. Demolition, also planned for September, will be the first priority in other sectors.

The exceptional holiday residences are expected to each have their own mooring, usually right on the individual property. The official marketing campaign will be launched at Hamburg’s ‘hanseboot’ Boat Show at the end of October 2008. Terraced and semi-detached houses as well as spacious villas will be built in the first phase of construction.

Skippers and would-be property buyers who are unable to attend the Hamburg show, have another chance to view the Port Olpenitz project personally at the ‘boot 2008’ Boat Show in Düsseldorf.
